WEEKLONG WEEKEND EP "UNTIL WE RUIN OUR LIVES" | joel beazer

⇦back

until we ruin our lives Weeklong Weekend is a local darling in the Minneapolis area. They're a huge player in the local community. Weeklong Weekend is a 5 piece out of Minneapolis comprising 2 guitarists, Kevin (24) and Namgyal (25), 1 bassist; Franklin, or Tang (28), and drummer Matthais (27).

Recently, I got to see them play at JAJA Land, a local house venue in St. Paul. While at the show, I got to talk with them about their upcoming projects and their story. The band just released an EP on June 2nd called Until We Ruin Our Lives, and are preparing for an upcoming tour, going all the way from Minnesota to New York.

Weeklong weekend has only been around for 2 years with their current lineup. Franklin and Matthisas were originally in another band that was playing with Weeklong, the two joining the project after Weeklong’s original drummer and bassist left at the same time.

Weeklong has been working on their EP for a year. This is the first time we get to hear Kevin on vocals for a released Project. Kevin started learning to sing for the project a year ago and has blossomed to become a great vocalist. The band has infectious energy all over this project.

With riffs that make you feel the need to move your body, this is the heaviest we’ve ever heard Weeklong, with break downs that hit you in the face with their weight. “Opacity” is my highlight of the EP and a must listen. “Snow” is another stand out, with distorted vocals and the intense delivery of punk legends.

When asked if this EP was indicative of their sound going forward, the band said: “It’s the start of where we're about to go, it's the launch point. This is all music that we wrote together as a full band.” All of their other material, Tang and Matthias weren't in the band for.

I’m truly excited about Weeklong Weekend. They have such an incredible stage presence and they're such genuine people. They're going to go incredibly far.

If you get the chance, you should see them in a small room while you still can, because they are stars in the making.
